Georgia travel guide: Batumi, Tbilisi and the Black Sea coast
Georgia connects Black Sea Batumi, the historic neighbourhoods of Tbilisi and Caucasus scenery in short breaks or multi-city trips. Plan around border arrangements, transport and current travel-insurance rules.
Guide updated: 29 October 2026What to know before visiting Georgia
A Batumi-focused Georgia tour works well for seaside walks, the old town and Adjarian food. Adding Tbilisi means more intercity travel, while Mtskheta or mountain routes need additional time. Compare road, rail and flight options against the actual departure details.
Places to explore
Batumi Boulevard
A Black Sea promenade that links well with the Ali and Nino Statue, Alphabetic Tower and nearby European Square.
Old Batumi
Piazza, historic squares and architecture from different periods make a relaxed walking area.
Tbilisi
Old Tbilisi, Narikala, sulphur baths and the Mtkvari River reveal the capital’s history and everyday city life.
Mtskheta
Historic landmarks and monasteries near Tbilisi can work as a half-day or full-day extension.
Local food to try
Adjarian khachapuri
A boat-shaped cheese bread associated with Batumi and the Adjara region.
Khinkali
Georgian dumplings with a juicy filling; ask about meat, cheese and vegetable options.
Lobio and walnut dishes
Beans, walnuts and herbs introduce a few of the regional flavours found across Georgian tables.
A route to consider
- 01
Coast and old town in Batumi
Walk the boulevard and central squares, then leave time for Adjarian cuisine.
- 02
Continue to Tbilisi
Check rail, flight or road times and avoid squeezing a city transfer into a packed sightseeing day.
- 03
Add Mtskheta or a mountain stop
Choose a historic or nature-focused extension after checking the season and road conditions.

- If you enter with a national ID card, keep the entry-exit form issued at departure with you and present it on return.
- Allow enough time for the distance between Batumi and Tbilisi.
